Decades after Europe, South Fork Wind sends first commercial wind power onto US grid

Danish wind energy developer Ørsted and the utility Eversource announced Wednesday the first electricity from what will be a 12-turbine wind farm called South Fork Wind 35 miles (56 kilometers) east of Montauk Point, New York. It will be New York’s first offshore wind farm.

Work starts on New York’s first offshore wind project

South Fork Wind Farm is a 132 MW project to be located 19 miles southeast of Block Island, Rhode Island. The project is approved to install 12 or fewer wind turbines and will use Siemens-Gamesa’s 11 MW turbines. Kiewit Offshore Services will design and build the project’s substation.
